We'd intended to hike Ford Knoll, but some spooked wild horses in the forest turned us back. Instead we walked along the river beside the campground, on the trail we use to get to Nihahi.
JJ - I think the horses were just nervous around humans. That trail is very seldom used - even though it's beside a popular campground, we rarely see anyone else on it (there are some very popular trails nearby). I don't think there are cougars (at least none I've seen), but there are bears (probably black bears, not grizzlies). In fact, the past few times we've hiked this trail, we've seen old bear warning signs posted (I hope they were old). We hiked this trail just a couple of weekends ago and the signs were still there. This time I remembered to take a photo, so I'll post it soon.

That's a beautiful photo.
I commented on your last post but it hasn't shown up so fingers crossed for this one.
Suzanne, that was me being a little slow on the draw. I thought I'd clicked all the right buttons, but I must not have.
It's a beautiful area... I can't take credit for it. ;-)
Love your blog.. Interesting posts and nice photos.. :)
I wonder what spooked the horses!!! That must have been scary. Are their grizzlies and mountain lions in the Fort Knoll area?
Loved the post and photo!!!
Hugs, JJ
Michele - thanks. ;-)
