--John Muir
"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of autumn."

How very accurate that quote is. There's nothing like getting into nature, whether it's in the mountains or by the sea, to clear away the cobwebs and to help balance out one's priorities.
Michelle, that's beautiful and you are so right, it does say it all! I adore John Muir's words. That is one of my favorite quotes.
I like it! It's very true. It was well worth "lifting!" ;-)
Thanks everyone. I have to admit, I'm not big on quotes, but that one grabbed me right away -- it's just so true without being over the top. I'm going to go find out more about John Muir now. Anyone have any knowledge about him?
Very pointed quote, 30C below, you are making my knees hurt! Boy, I would like to get back into the wild. Haven't had a pack on my back in 10yrs since my Army days. Thanks for reminding me of a economical and enjoyable experience with health benefits.
BTW: what animals do you encounter on your adventures?
Hey Threio.. yeah, 30C below can hurt. I basically won't do it if the wind is blowing! Just getting to the great outdoors is certainly an inexpensive and fun way to regain your sanity. I highly recommend it!
As far animals, on the trails we mostly see the little critters: squirrels, chipmunks, gophers, sometimes weasels, and higher up we see pikas. We've seen white tailed deer, mule deer, elk and moose. We've seen tracks and signs of cougars and bears, but those are the ones you don't want to see on the trail. There are also bobcats, coyote, wolves, cows, horses, foxes.... we've got everything from ranchland to foothills to mountain terrain, so there's quite a range!
Thanks for coming by...
Shamelessly stolen though it may be, thanks for sharing. :-)

Loved this quote - reminds of our cabin in the woods.
Marvin - my pleasure. Few quotes move me, so I figured this one had to be something special. ;-)
shellmo - I can totally see something like this being penned from the porch of a rustic cabin in the woods..... thanks for the visual!
It's hot and humid today in Pennsylvania, I came back to cool off!
